Location: 701 Crossroads Blvd. Logan Township, NJ 08085
Salary: $84K - 126K annually
Shift: Monday to Friday from 2:00pm to 10:00pm

Employment Logistics:

The Controls Engineer is in charge of supporting the reliability, functionality, and uptime of OnTrac’s automated parcel handling systems by developing, maintaining, and optimizing PLC and WCS (Warehouse Control System) programs. This role provides real-time troubleshooting, supports controls design standards, and implements improvements that enhance throughput, fault recovery, and automation stability. The Controls Engineer works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and OEM partners to help maintain a resilient, standardized, and scalable controls environment across the network.

The Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 4–8 years of experience in a related field
  • Proficiency with PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell), HMIs, SCADA systems, and safety interlocks
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

Your Mission in Motion:

  • Keep automation running at peak reliability: Support, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC and WCS systems for conveyor lines, sortation equipment, dimensioners, and other automated systems to improve uptime and stability.
  • Build and maintain robust PLC logic: Develop and maintain PLC programs (primarily Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell) that ensure reliable operation and strong fault recovery behavior.
  • Implement improvements with engineering and OEM partners: Collaborate on controls revisions and software updates that improve throughput, recovery performance, and system consistency.
  • Support commissioning and integration: Assist with commissioning, controls validation, and integration testing for new automation deployments and retrofits.
  • Keep controls documentation accurate and current: Maintain IO lists, electrical schematics, network diagrams, and control panel layouts to support standardized operation and troubleshooting.
  • Enable frontline success and safe operation: Work with site technicians to resolve complex faults, train on basic troubleshooting, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards (e‑stops, lockout/tagout logic, interlocks).

  • You build trust with local maintenance teams through hands-on support, clear coaching, and practical troubleshooting guidance.
  • You collaborate effectively across Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and OEM partners to drive consistent controls improvements.
  • You uphold safety and operational standards in controls design and troubleshooting, ensuring interlocks and emergency functions work as intended.
